Nearly 12 years ago, a small group of artists, writers, and supporters of the arts came together
to form the Langhorne Council for the Arts (LCA), dedicated to providing creative outlets and
fostering appreciation for the arts in the Langhorne community. In 1998, Langhorne Council for
the Arts, Langhorne Borough, and Langhorne Open Space, Inc., joined forces to create a center
for the creative arts at Langhorne Heritage Farm by providing studio space for artists, writers,
and musicians. To date, 20 "Artists-at-the-Farm" have found peace and inspiration in studios
converted from chicken coops, stalls, and other outbuildings on the Farm. Other LCA endeavors
include:
- ARTFEST! —a semiannual event that showcases local talent and encourages community members of all ages to participate in creative activities
- Children's Art and Creative Writing Show — a semiannual event that encourages
children, preschool through grade 12, to engage in creative self-expression
- A variety of musical performances, poetry slams, and writers' workshops
- Dedication of THE PEACEABLE KINGDOM print in the Langhorne Coffee House, the former home of Langhorne's first famous artist, Edward Hicks.
And there is much more to come!
The Board of LCA is planning many new and exciting ways to bring the arts to our community
and our community to the arts! Upcoming events include "Meet the Artist" soirees; "Meet the
Author" readings; jazz, classical, and world music performances; and a very special "Arts in the
Garden" walking tour that will feature some of the most talented artists and beautiful gardens in
our community. LCA is also reaching out to local businesses to establish gallery space of changing
exhibits so business patrons can enjoy and learn more about the works of our member artists.
Membership information can be found in that section of our site. We look forward to having you
join us!
