LCA proudly supports middle and high school students in their pursuits in visual and performing arts through a scholarship fund, established in April 2008.

Scholarship funds are raised through LCA membership dues, events, donations, and notecard sales. Your support of LCA is much appreciated!
Presenting 2010 LCA Scholarship Winners

Five talented students from Neshaminy schools were awarded scholarships from Langhorne Council for the Arts at a ceremony held on May 8 at the historic home of Langhorne Borough Mayor Chris and Mary Blaydon.   Hayley Buxton, a sophomore at Neshaminy High School, participates in several vocal groups and has performed in fourteen musical productions, including Broadway Jr. in New York City.  Haley will apply her scholarship toward private vocal lessons. Nicole Pomponio is a junior at Neshaminy High School where she is a member of several choir groups.  Nicole plans to become a vocal music teacher, and will use her scholarship for voice lessons.  Emily Tolnay is in the eighth grade at Poquessing Middle School.  In addition to participating in vocal groups in school, Emily has appeared in many musical productions  in school and community theater. An aspiring music teacher, Emily will use her scholarship for private vocal lessons.  Konstantina Kloufetos, a freshman at Neshaminy High School, has aspirations of becoming a singer/performer.  Tina studies violin, ballet and dance, and has performed in school musicals.  She will use her scholarship for further her study of voice. Kristen Haines, a sophomore at Neshaminy High School, is a talented artist who participates  the school's Art and Photography clubs.  Kristen plans to become an art teacher and will use her scholarship to study at University of the Arts Pre-College summer art program.

The LCA Board congratulates these students on their accomplishments and wishes them well as they explore enrichment opportunities in the arts.  LCA also applauds their parents and the teachers of the Fine Arts and Performing Arts programs in Neshaminy School District for supporting their dreams. Langhorne Council for the Arts sponsors the annual Arts in the Garden Tour to raise money for these student scholarships.

The 2009 LCA Scholarships were presented to six very talented musicians from Neshaminy schools at the Spring Soiree on May 1 at the studios of Nina and Michael Wommack.  The ceremony was attended by LCA Board members, Borough Council officials, community and artist members of LCA, the recipients and their families.  Each student received $250 dollars to pursue enrichment experiences in the arts.  We are proud to honor these talented students and wish them the best in their future endeavors:
 • Molly Beitman:  11th grade at Neshaminy HS.  Molly is a member of the BCMEA Choir, the Chanticleers, the select choir, and concert choir.  She has performed leads in school musicals.  Molly will use her scholarship for private voice lessons or study at Penn State vocal camp this summer.
 • Megan Dickson: 11th grade at Neshaminy HS,  Megan is an honor student and has won awards for her singing.  She is a member of the concert choir, select choir, and Chanticleers.  Megan will use her scholarship to take private voice lessons.
 • Rachel Jones:  7th grade at Poquessing Middle School. Rachel is in the wind ensemble, band, orchestra, choir, bell choir, and concert choir.  She also plays Little League Softball and participates in the Reading Olympics.  Rachel will use her scholarship for private cello lessons.
 • Megan McArdle:  9th grade at Poquessing Middle School.  Megan is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, high school choir, and district chorus.  She has won an award from the Bucks County Music Educators.  Megan will apply her scholarship toward tuition for vocal camp at Penn State this summer.
 • Matthew Thiemsen:  7th grade at Maple Point.  Matthew is an honor student who plays violin and trumpet, and is a member of the Maple Point orchestra, string ensemble, jazz band and marching band.  He also participates on baseball, basketball, and track teams.  Matthew will use his scholarship to take private trumpet lessons.
 • Sarah VonSydow:  9th grade at Poquessing Middle School.  Sarah has been a member of the Bucks County Choir since 7th grade, and is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.  Sarah will apply her scholarship toward tuition for vocal camp at Penn State this summer.

    LCA is very pleased to introduce the 2008 LCA Scholarship in the Arts award winners. The four recipients are not only very talented but all are also very active in many diverse school and community organizations.  Each will use the scholarship money to pursue enrichment opportunities in the arts. The awards were presented at the studios of Nina and Michael Wommack on Friday, May 2. Nearly 50 people attended the ceremony, including LCA members, local artists, members of Langhorne Borough Council, and the recipients’ families.
     Deanna Roepcke is a 6th grade Distinguished Honor student at Pen Ryn.  She plays the piano and flute, and is also a dancer.  She will apply her award toward study ballet, hip hop and other styles of dance.                                 
     Christopher Smirnov  is in 8th grade at Maple Point Middle School.  He has talent in the visual and performing arts. He is a gifted violinist who plays in his school orchestra, and is also a member of the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County.  He aspires to a career as a professional musician, and hopes to attend a prestigious conservatory after high school.  Chris will use his award for private lessons to help him attain that goal.
    Adam Gillen is a 9th grade student at Maple Point, where he participates in the concert choir, concert and jazz bands, school plays, and athletics.  A talented French horn player who has been selected for the Bucks County Music Festival for the past three years, Adam would like to pursue a career in music or theater.  His award will be used for private instrumental lessons.
    Lynn Roberts is a  junior at Neshaminy High School, where she is involved in the band and orchestra. She is also a karate instructor.  Her true passion is in the visual arts.  Lynn was selected to participate in the Philadelphia Mural Arts program where she has the opportunity to paint alongside professional artists. While Lynn enjoys working in many artistic media, she is particularly interested in ceramics.  Lynn plans to use her award to attend classes at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia.
      LCA congratulates these talented students on their achievements and wishes them well in future artistic endeavors! 
           
 
LCA Awards can be used for a variety of  enrichment experiences, such as:

Private lessons,

Penn State Art or Music camps,

classes at the Michener Museum and BCCC,

and others.

     Each spring LCA will award merit-based scholarships to Bucks County middle and high school students (through junior year) with demonstrated talent and career interest in the arts. The scholarship awards, up to $300 each,  may be used to help students, prior to graduation, attend such programs as art or music camp or private lessons with an art or music teacher. If you are a middle or high school student (grades 6 - 11) interested in applying for this scholarship, please click here to obtain the eligibility criteria, application requirements, recommendation form, and deadlines for submission.  Please note that scholarships are NOT for college use, but for student experiences prior to graduation.

     Scholarship winners will be notified by by mid-April.  Scholarships will be awarded at the LCA Spring Soiree in early May.  Scholarship winners may be asked to show their art or perform their music at a future LCA event such as the 2010 Arts in the Garden Tour.
